life after surgery.
Things have been pretty difficult for Alan and I after my surgery. We are trying to keep the mindset that everything happens for a reason, and this was what God wanted for us. But I can't help but to feel like if that was the plan, then WHY did he put the baby there to begin with? I know this is going to take some time before we accept what happened to us. The other issue is whether or not we are going to have difficulty when we do start trying to have kids, now that I only have one fallopian tube, and whether or not I will have an Ectopic Pregnancy again. Because if I do, and I have to have my other tube removed then the only chance we will have of having kids is through Invitro Fertilization. Right now, I am trying to keep myself busy by planning our wedding. We set the date on Friday and the wedding is going to be Sunday, May 2nd at 3:30pm. We booked The River Road House & The Jasmine House for the ceremony and the reception. We are both SO excited about it! We were originally going to have the wedding March 6th, but in light of everything that happened we decided it was best to push it back a few months.

.. the past week..
For those of you who don't know, Alan and I found out we were expecting this month.
1-17-10/ 1-18-10
I started having this terrible pain that went from my back, down my groin & then down my left leg. After trying multiple things to try to get rid of the pain, I eventually went to the bathrom and it finally went away. About an hour after the pain went away, I went to the bathroom and noticed I had started spotting. I got really worried and called my mom. After talking with her, Alan and I decided to go to the ER just to get checked out and be on the safe side.
We got to the ER at 7pm and didn't get into a room until midnight. After 3 ultrasounds, about 10 different blood tests and morphine for the pain- they could not give me a definitive anwer as to why I was having the pain, and if the baby was ok. They did tell me my HCG level was 58.
The doctor made an appointment for 9am the next morning at an OB-GYN clinic to have my blood re drawn (for the third time this weekend) and see if my HCG levels were rising. We finally got home at around 6am and went to bed.
1-19-10
I woke up to breakfast in bed, thanks to my wonderful fiance. We had bacon, eggs and hashbrowns, and it was awesome. We got to our appointment at 8:45am only to find out we techincally didn't have an appointment. Needless to say I was pretty upset. So we finally got my blood drawn around 10am and we were told the results wouldn't be ready for two hours, and that we could leave and come back. So of course we went home and took a nap. We got back a little before 12pm and apparently their was a miscommunication and they wanted us back at 11am. SO they told us to leave yet again and come back at 2pm so we could speak with the doctor about my results. So we ran a few errands and came back then. We eventually got in to see the doctor only to fnd out I needed yet another blood test tomorrow to compare the three results. The only thing I found out was that my HCG level is now at 77. So now I will be going in tomorrow to have more blood drawn, and hopefully the level is continuing to rise. :) come on baby h.a.!
1-20-10
After our horrible experince at the Gynecology Clinic at Richland Hospital, my mom called her OB-GYN and got us in to have another blood test done. We got there around 11am and I went back and had my blood work done. They were running it STAT becausse they were extremely worried about my severe pain as well as my bleeding. After having my blood drawn, I went into a room with my mom and Alan and spoke Dr. Skinner. For the first time since Sunday, someone was actually listening to what I had to say and she was taking my concerns seriously. She ordered yet another ultrasound (4th one since Monday morning.) When I went to the back and had that done, the tech told me there was free fluid around my left ovary as well as debris.
While we were waiting for the blood test results to come back, the pain on my left side got so bad I couldn't sit down anymore. It finally somewhat went away so I could sit back down. After the doctor saw the shape I was in, she decided she wanted me to go to Lexington Medical Center and have Laparoscopic surgery under general anesthesia. This procedure involves a surgeon using a laparoscope to look and see if there was a possible ruptured cyst or a cyst on my ovary, or if it was an ectopic pregnancy. My HCG levels came back at 110, almost double what the were on Monday morning. (which is where they should be in a normal pregnancy.) About an hour later I was being wheeled to the surgery part of the building to register and then go to pre-op.
In pre-op, I had a horrible RN who insisted I PEE in a cup so they could do a PREGNANCY TEST. After about being in tears thanks to her horrible bedside manner, I asked her if this was totally necessary seeing as I was about to have a pretty serious surgery to see if I had an Ectopic PREGNANCY and that I was very well aware of the fact that I was pregnant. Needless to say, I was not very pleased with her at all.
After that, the surgeon, Dr. Plyer, gave me morphine and versed for the pain. That is the last thing I remember before waking up in recovery 3 hours later. When I woke up I found out that it was in fact an ectopic pregnancy and that I had about 50cc's of blood in my uterus, and they had to take one of my fallopian tubes. I was also told that had I waited another day, my fallopian tube would have ruptured and I could have died.
Due to poor care from the first two places I went to I almost ignored my own suspicions and went along with what the "doctor" was telling me. I have learned to never go against what your body is telling you. I am going to be ok, I am just glad I have a very persistent mom who wouldn't take "no" for an answer. I spent the night at the hospital last night in order for them to get my pain under control. I got discharged this afternoon and I am now on bed rest for the2 weeks. Thank you to everyone who called and visited me at the hospital, Alan and I really appreciate it!
1-22-10
I am still extremely sore and my belly is still very, very bloated from the gas they had to put in there to be able to see everything. I found out this afternoon that apparently I lost so much blood before surgery that I was anemic. The doctor has me on a lot of different medicines right now to try to control the pain. My mom is coming over soon to do some wedding planning to take my mind off of everything.

new york city!
Alan and I left for NYC on Thursday, December 17th and returned Tuesday, December 22nd. We had the BEST time! (even though we got caught in a blizzard.) I had made an itinerary long before our trip so we could at least have an idea about what we were going to do each day, so we would not miss anything! Everyone kept telling me there was no way we were going to be able to do everything on my list. WELL, we did! And we even did a few things we hadn't exactly planned for. Like getting separated on the subway the day Alan left his phone in the hotel room. Nonetheless, we had a wonderful time and I can't wait until we can go back! Hopefully we can make it there for New Years eventually :)
